KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian budget airline AirAsia X said Wednesday it transported a total of 880,265 passengers in the second quarter, up 42 percent year-on-year.

The company said in a statement that the number of passengers surpassed the 25 percent growth in its available seat per kilometer (ASK) capacity.

According to the statement, the airline's ASK capacity stood at 4,395 million in the second quarter, against 3,509 million in the corresponding period last year.

The company has seen over the past 12 months growing demand and reactivated aircraft to support its expanding network, with business buoyed by peak spring travel seasons in key markets and the Eid al-Fitr holiday period during the cited quarter.

AirAsia X resumed flight operations to China's Xi'an in April, reinforcing its presence in this core market to five destinations including Beijing, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Shanghai.
