Canada rally to beat New Zealand in women's soccer group game at Paris 2024

PARIS, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Canada came back from one goal down to beat New Zealand in their first group game of the Paris Olympics women's soccer competition on Thursday.

New Zealand took the lead in the 13th minute through Mackenzie Barry who made a superb turn in the box to finish a cross from Katie Kitching.

Three minutes into the injury time of the first half, Cloe Lacasse equalized for Canada after outpacing the defenders to find the net.

Evelyne Viens scored the winner for the defending champions in the 79th minute when she picked up a long pass from Jessie Fleming and put the ball past New Zealand goalkeeper Anna Leat.

Canada are to face hosts France on Sunday.
