U.S. stocks close higher

NEW YORK, July 26 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 654.27 points, or 1.64 percent, to 40,589.34. The S&P 500 added 59.88 points, or 1.11 percent, to 5,459.1. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 176.16 points, or 1.03 percent, to 17,357.88.

All of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with industrials and materials leading the gainers by adding 1.72 percent and 1.68 percent, respectively. Energy posted the weakest growth, up by 0.36 percent.
