ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, July 28 (Xinhua) -- The 19th Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Book Fair concluded in Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alexandria on Sunday with unprecedented visitor turnout, according to a staff of the book fair.

"More than 100,000 people visited the two-week book fair, a record-breaking turnout," Mohammed Sulieman, head of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina cultural communication sector and general supervisor of the book fair, told Xinhua.

The fair, which started on July 15, was organized by Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a major library and cultural center in the city, in cooperation with the General Egyptian Book Organization and the Egyptian and Arab Publishers Association.

Some 77 publishing and printing houses from Egypt and other Arab countries attended this year's fair, the library's website showed.

"Additionally, more than 160 seminars, public meetings, poetry evenings, training workshops, and interactive activities were held during the book fair," Sulieman added.

The event also discussed a wide range of issues and topics, most notably publishing in Egypt, problems of collecting popular heritage, trends in book design, and the future of journalism in Egypt, he added.
