PARIS, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Canada's Camryn Rogers announced a changing of the guard by claiming gold in the women's hammer throw at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old clinched the title with a best throw of 76.97 meters to finish ahead of the United States' Annette Echikunwoke, who took silver with 75.48.
China's Zhao Jie took bronze with 74.27, while defending champion Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland finished fourth.
Rogers' victory ended Wlodarczyk's dominance in this event that had dated back to London 2012. The 38-year-old was aiming to become only the third athlete in history to win the same individual athletics event at four consecutive Games.
Americans Al Oerter (discus) and Carl Lewis (long jump) remain the only individuals to achieve the feat.
