U.S. stocks close higher

NEW YORK, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 51.05 points, or 0.13 percent, to 39,497.54. The S&P 500 added 24.85 points, or 0.47 percent, to 5,344.16. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 85.28 points, or 0.51 percent, to 16,745.3.

Ten of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with communication services and technology leading the gainers by going up 0.97 percent and 0.64 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, materials bucked the trend by dropping 0.10 percent.
