BUCHAREST, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- The National Bank of Moldova (BNM) has forecast an average annual inflation rate of 4.7 percent for 2024 and 5.3 percent for 2025, according to a report presented by Governor Anca Dragu on Tuesday.
The report expects the inflation rate to accelerate through late 2024, peaking at 6.4 percent in the first quarter of 2025, before gradually declining to a low of 4.0 percent by the second quarter of 2026, with a slight uptick anticipated in the second quarter of 2025.
In 2024, inflation showed a downward trend in the second quarter, falling from 3.9 percent in March to 3.3 percent in May, before returning to the target range at 3.8 percent in June.
The average inflation rate for the second quarter of this year was 3.5 percent, down 0.8 percentage points from the previous quarter, driven by modest domestic demand and disinflationary pressures from lower international and domestic prices.
