HELSINKI, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Swedish government announced on Wednesday that the national terrorism threat level will remain unchanged. Despite evolving threats, Sweden's security police have indicated that the risk of terrorism remains high.
According to the Swedish Television SVT, Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer, speaking at a press conference in Stockholm on Wednesday, described three main threats to Sweden's internal security: terrorism and violent extremism, hostile actions from state actors, and systemic organized crimes. He noted that while the nature of these threats has shifted, the high level of terrorism risk continues.
The threat level, which was raised to four on a five-point scale nearly a year ago, will not be adjusted at this time, according to the Swedish Security Service.
Regarding organized crimes, Strommer reported a decrease in shootings and an increase in the resolution of violent crimes compared to the previous year. However, he also highlighted ongoing risks, citing recent severe shootings as evidence of the significant violent capacity of gangs.
