U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, went up 0.4 percent to 102.976 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.0978 U.S. dollars from 1.1016 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.2862 U.S. dollars from 1.2830 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 149.01 Japanese yen, higher than 147.24 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was up to 0.8723 Swiss francs from 0.8650 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3724 Canadian dollars from 1.3713 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar advanced to 10.5347 Swedish kronor from 10.4595 Swedish kronor.
