Urgent: Volcano erupts in southwest Iceland

HELSINKI, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- A new volcano eruption occurred on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland on Thursday, the local media reported.

Lava continues to spew from the Sundhnuks crater, close to the town of Grindavik on the southern side of the Reykjanes Peninsula, according to Iceland's national broadcaster RUV.

That the evacuation of Grindavik is nearing completion, it said.
