U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 0.78 percent to 100.717 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro added to 1.1187 U.S. dollars from 1.1111 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.3203 dollars from 1.3092 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 144.30 Japanese yen, lower than 146.22 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar lost to 0.8479 Swiss francs from 0.8520 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.3513 Canadian dollars from 1.3605 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 10.1898 Swedish Kronor from 10.2487 Swedish Kronor.
