U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 0.29 percent to 100.554 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.1185 U.S. dollars from 1.1163 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.3259 dollars from 1.3190 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 144.02 Japanese yen, lower than 144.51 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.8414 Swiss francs from 0.8471 Swiss francs, and it dropped to 1.3448 Canadian dollars from 1.3475 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar fell to 10.1367 Swedish Kronor from 10.2072 Swedish Kronor.
