SARAJEVO, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has established a new anti-corruption team to strengthen its fight against graft across more than 100 institutions, local media reported on Wednesday.
Each institution has appointed a representative responsible for coordinating anti-corruption efforts and enhancing prevention measures, Jasenko Muharemagic, head of the team and former advisor to the prime minister, told the Federal News Agency of BiH.
The team aims to strengthen the confiscation of illegally acquired assets and reduce corruption risks by establishing an effective anti-corruption framework. It is also tasked with implementing the country's anti-corruption strategy for 2024-2028, adopted by the Council of Ministers in June, along with the corresponding action plan.
According to the 2023 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) published by Transparency International, BiH is the second-worst-ranked country in Europe regarding corruption. The report highlights a dysfunctional judiciary and attacks on civil liberties as key issues causing the problem.
