Malta experiences 2nd driest year in last 12 months: report

VALLETTA, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Malta experienced its second driest year on record between September 2023 and August 2024, the Meteorological Office reported on Friday.

Rainfall occurred on just 58 out of the 366 days, with a total of 249.8 millimeters of rain recorded, according to the Met Office's report. The only year drier than this was the year 1948, which saw just 230.7 millimeters of rain.

During this period, most months saw below-average rainfall, except this August.

Malta experienced 14 thunderstorms and three instances of hail, in November 2023, January and February 2024, said the report.
