U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 0.38 percent to 100.466 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro climbed to 1.1166 U.S. dollars from 1.1116 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound advanced to 1.3400 dollars from 1.3347 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 143.41 Japanese yen, higher than 143.34 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.8442 Swiss francs from 0.8467 Swiss francs, and it lost to 1.3444 Canadian dollars from 1.3502 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar declined to 10.1137 Swedish Kronor from 10.1909 Swedish Kronor.
