Germany's inflation drops to 1.6 pct in September

FRANKFURT, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- The inflation in Germany continued to drop in September, edging down to 1.6 percent, according to provisional data released by the Federal Statistical Office on Monday.

The consumer price index has been down for two months in a row since July when it picked up to 2.3 percent. The inflation rate in September has been the lowest since March 2021.

The harmonized index of consumer prices, a barometer more commonly used among the EU member states for the purpose of monetary policy, stood at 1.8 percent, down from 2 percent in August.

The monthly report published by the central bank of Germany Bundesbank earlier this month cautioned that the rise of energy prices will push up the annual rate of inflation from October.
