Direct investment in Malta up 20.4 bln euros in 2023

VALLETTA, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Direct investment in Malta went up by 20.4 billion euros (22.4 billion U.S. dollars) in 2023, reaching 430.5 billion euros, the National Statistics Office (NSO) reported on Tuesday.

The main contributors to total foreign direct investment (FDI) flows were financial and insurance activities with a total contribution of 88.8 percent.

In December 2023, the stock position of FDI saw an increase of 15 billion euros over the corresponding period of the previous year.

During 2023, direct investment flows abroad totaled 18.6 billion euros, mostly in the form of shares.

The stock position of direct investment abroad stood at 404.4 billion euros in December 2023, up by 12.5 billion euros over the stock position in 2022. (1 euro = 1.1 U.S. dollar)
