Cameroon edges Kenya in 2025 AFCON qualifier

KAMPALA, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Cameroon defeated Kenya 1-0 in a Group J match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on Monday.

Following the win, the Indomitable Lions had 10 points in the group with two rounds remaining and earned direct qualification for Africa's most prestigious football tournament. Cameroon joined Burkina Faso as the two teams who have now qualified for the 2025 AFCON to be held in Morocco.

Boris Enow Takang scored the lone goal from a free-kick in the 62nd minute in a match played at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.

Kenya hosted the match in Uganda because they do not have any stadium currently approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA to host international matches.

"We are very happy that after beating Kenya last week when we hosted them and now after the 1-0 win, we have managed to qualify for the AFCON. I congratulate my teammates and all Cameroonians," said Cameroon's goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Zimbabwe, who will face Namibia in the other match of the group on Monday night, is second with five points, while Kenya has accumulated four points, and Namibia none.
