U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar advanced in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.5 percent to 104.013 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was down to 1.0812 U.S. dollars from 1.0865 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound dropped to 1.2979 U.S. dollars from 1.3046 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 150.78 Japanese yen, higher than 149.51 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar advanced to 0.8662 Swiss francs from 0.8654 Swiss francs, and it increased to 1.3841 Canadian dollars from 1.3810 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar added to 10.5626 Swedish kronor from 10.5321 Swedish kronor.
