U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar advanced in late trading on Wednesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.34 percent to 104.431 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.0781 U.S. dollars from 1.0800 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound decreased to 1.2923 U.S. dollars from 1.2978 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 152.66 Japanese yen, higher than 151.06 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar added to 0.8670 Swiss francs from 0.8656 Swiss francs, and it increased to 1.3840 Canadian dollars from 1.3822 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar rose to 10.6045 Swedish kronor from 10.5410 Swedish kronor.
