Egypt's unemployment rate up to 6.7 pct in Q3

CAIRO, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- The unemployment rate in Egypt rose to 6.7 percent in the third quarter (Q3) of 2024, up by 0.2 percent compared to the second quarter of 2024, according to the country's official statistics agency report on Thursday.

The report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics said the total number of unemployed individuals in the period reached 2.16 million, making up 6.7 percent of the entire workforce.

It noted that the unemployment among women hit 18.2 percent, significantly higher than men at 4.2 percent.

The youth unemployment, especially the age group of 15-29, accounted for 67.2 percent of the total unemployed population.

The workforce in Egypt consisted of 26.43 million males and 5.79 million females, according to the report.
