Malta airport reports record passenger growth in October


VALLETTA, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- International Airport (MIA) handled over 838,000 passenger movements in October, setting a new monthly record, the company reported on Thursday.

In a statement, MIA highlighted that October passenger traffic surged by 8.7 percent year-on-year. The airport also reported a net profit of 39.5 million euros (41.9 million U.S. dollars) for the first nine months of 2024, with total revenue reaching 107.8 million euros.

In light of the positive results, MIA revised its forecast for 2024, projecting 8.96 million passenger movements and an estimated revenue of 141 million euros by year-end.

Data from Malta's National Statistics Office on Tuesday showed that inbound tourism also rose significantly. Malta welcomed 361,015 tourists in September, a 20.7 percent increase over the same month last year. From January to September, tourist arrivals reached 2.77 million, up 21.1 percent from the same period in the previous year.
