HONG KONG, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- The 2024 Boao Forum For Asia Youth Summit (Hong Kong) was held Tuesday to encourage young people worldwide to leverage their unique strengths and make contributions to the society.

Zheng Yanxiong, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said at the summit that young people of Hong Kong took the lead in science and technology, took the initiative to start businesses, won gold medals in the Olympic Games, and actively served the society, demonstrating the infinite charm of the practice of "one country, two systems" and the bright future of the younger generation.

Zhang Jun, secretary general of Boao Forum for Asia, said that the main purpose of the summit was to discuss major issues facing the world today from the perspective of youth, and to explore the role and contribution of youth in leading the future. The younger generation should have a long-term vision to adhere to the general direction of international dialogue and cooperation for mutual benefit and win-win results.

Lawrence Lam, chairman of Hong Kong's Y. Elites Association, said that as witnesses and participants in the course of history, young people can engage in exchanges through the summit and shoulder the important task of promoting world progress and leading the trends of times.

The summit, themed "Pioneering Tomorrow: Roles and Contributions of Youth," was co-hosted by Boao Forum for Asia and the Y. Elites Association. It was one of annual activities of the Boao Forum for Asia. Since the first meeting in 2009, it has been held in Hong Kong seven times.
