Italy's medical staff strike for better pay, more healthcare funding


ROME, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Doctors and nurses in Italy's public healthcare system staged a 24-hour strike on Wednesday, calling for better pay and increased investment in the National Health System (NHS).

The strike, which saw participation from up to 85 percent of medical staff in public hospitals nationwide, left only emergency services operational, according to Ansa News Agency, which cited three major medical unions.
