PRAGUE, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Electric vehicle (EV) production in the Czech Republic plunged 19.4 percent year-on-year to 127,222 units in the first ten months of 2024, even as total passenger car output grew 6.6 percent over the same period, according to data from the Czech Automotive Industry Association.
The decline in EV production also saw its share of total car output drop to 10.3 percent, down from 13.6 percent in 2023. This sharp fall contrasts with the steady growth in overall passenger car production, which reached 1.239 million vehicles between January and October.
Skoda Auto, the country's largest carmaker, reported a 5.7 percent increase in production during the period, while Toyota saw a notable 25 percent surge. Despite these positive trends, the association warned of a slowdown in production compared to the beginning of the year.
"Domestic vehicle production is slowing down at the end of the year in correlation with a decline in vehicle sales in the main European markets. Demand for electric models is also lagging behind expectations," said Zdenek Petzl, the association's executive director.
Petzl noted, however, that total vehicle production for the full year is still on track to surpass 2023 levels. Endite
