GAZA CITY: Another Palestinian journalist has been killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip, raising the number of media professionals killed since Oct 7, 2023, to 189, Gaza's media office reports.

According to Anadolu Agency (AA), the victim, Wael Ibrahim Abu Quffa, was a journalist and a lecturer in the Department of Journalism and Media at the Islamic University of Gaza, the office said in a release on Saturday (Nov 23).

The media office condemned the killing, calling on the international community to intervene and describing the attacks on journalists as systematic.

It also urged international organisations and governments to "hold Israel accountable by taking legal action in international courts and to exert pressure on Israel to halt the ongoing genocide in Gaza."

Since Oct 7 of last year, the Israeli regime has launched a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in over 44,000 deaths, predominantly women and children, and injuring over 104,000.

The second year of genocide in Gaza has attracted increasing international condemnation, with officials and institutions characterising the attacks and the blocking of aid deliveries as a deliberate attempt to annihilate a population.

The ICC announced a historic move on Thursday (Nov 21), issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
