U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar advanced in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.36 percent to 108.409 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro dropped to 1.0362 U.S. dollars from 1.0376 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound declined to 1.2505 dollars from 1.2593 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 157.43 Japanese yen, higher than 154.66 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.8983 Swiss francs from 0.9003 Swiss francs, and it lost to 1.4388 Canadian dollars from 1.4417 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 11.0322 Swedish Kronor from 11.1102 Swedish Kronor.
