U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.73 percent to 107.622 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.0445 U.S. dollars from 1.0362 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound climbed to 1.2599 dollars from 1.2505 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 156.00 Japanese yen, lower than 157.43 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar dropped to 0.8918 Swiss francs from 0.8983 Swiss francs, and it declined to 1.4353 Canadian dollars from 1.4388 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 11.0087 Swedish Kronor from 11.0322 Swedish Kronor.
