U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar advanced in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.39 percent to 108.037 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro dropped to 1.0412 U.S. dollars from 1.0445 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound declined to 1.2535 dollars from 1.2599 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 157.10 Japanese yen, higher than 156.00 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.8985 Swiss francs from 0.8918 Swiss francs, and it increased to 1.4372 Canadian dollars from 1.4353 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar climbed to 11.0322 Swedish Kronor from 11.0087 Swedish Kronor.
