U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 390.08 points, or 0.91 percent, to 43,297.03. The S&P 500 added 65.97 points, or 1.10 percent, to 6,040.04. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 266.24 points, or 1.35 percent, to 20,031.13.

All of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with consumer discretionary and financials leading the gainers by rising 2.62 percent and 1.20 percent, respectively. Health posted the weakest growth, up by 0.41 percent.
