U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar rose in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.84 percent to 109.394 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro dropped to 1.0251 U.S. dollars from 1.0358 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound decreased to 1.2369 dollars from 1.2516 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 157.62 Japanese yen, higher than 157.40 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar added to 0.9134 Swiss francs from 0.9077 Swiss francs, and it was up to 1.4418 Canadian dollars from 1.4393 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar rose to 11.1682 Swedish Kronor from 11.0518 Swedish Kronor.
