SARAJEVO, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Heavy snow severely disrupted traffic in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Friday, particularly in central and northern regions, where snow accumulation was predicted to range from 10 to 20 cm, according to local authorities.

The Federal Hydrometeorological Institute issued a yellow warning for snow, ice and extremely low temperatures in these areas, advising citizens to remain cautious due to icy roads and slippery sidewalks.

The BiH Automobile and Motorcycle Club (BIHAMK) reported frequent traffic jams caused by snow and icy conditions. The organization reminded drivers that snow chains are mandatory for freight vehicles in specific areas.

Freight vehicles were unable to pass through Sarajevo to the eastern and southern regions, including Rogatica and Foca. Roads in the northwestern city of Bihac and nearby Kljuc were closed to heavy goods vehicles.

In the northern Borova Glava area, wild horses entering highways created further hazards for drivers.

Severe weather conditions also led to long delays at border crossings, particularly in the northern city of Gradiska and the northwestern city of Izacic.

In Ilijas, about 50 km from Sarajevo, police said a BMW slid off the road. No casualties were reported. In Sarajevo, municipal services were delayed in clearing roads.

Snow is a common occurrence in BiH. Last week's heavy snowfall and strong winds left tens of thousands of homes without power.
