U.S. dollar ticks down


NEW YORK, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar decreased in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, dropped 0.4 percent to 108.951 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro climbed to 1.0301 U.S. dollars from 1.0251 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound advanced to 1.2428 dollars from 1.2369 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 157.21 Japanese yen, lower than 157.62 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.9091 Swiss francs from 0.9134 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.4449 Canadian dollars from 1.4418 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar fell to 11.1083 Swedish Kronor from 11.1682 Swedish Kronor.
