Hungary's tourism hits record highs in November 2024

BUDAPEST, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Hungary's tourism sector soared to unprecedented levels in November 2024, with guest numbers increasing by 17 percent year-on-year to 1.2 million and overnight stays rising by 10 percent to 2.8 million, according to the Ministry of National Economy.

Domestic tourism saw significant growth, with a 10 percent increase bringing 607,000 local visitors, while international arrivals surged by 23 percent to 639,000 compared to the same month last year, the ministry said in a statement.

The tourism boom translated into robust financial performance, as accommodation providers across Hungary reported nearly 78 billion forints (195 million U.S. dollars) in revenue -- 24 percent higher than in November 2023.

Tourism remains a cornerstone of Hungary's economy, supporting over 400,000 families nationwide, the ministry said. (1 forint = 0.0025 U.S. dollar)
