Sarajevo sets tourism record during New Year holidays


SARAJEVO, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Sarajevo set a new record of tourist arrivals and overnight stays during the New Year holidays, according to data from the Sarajevo Canton Tourism Board.

From Dec. 29 to Jan. 2, tourist arrivals increased by 10 percent, and overnight stays grew by 8 percent compared to the same period last year.

Hotel occupancy exceeded 97 percent, with visitors from Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Türkiye, and China.

From Dec. 29 to Jan. 5, tourist visits rose by 30 percent, while overnight stays increased by nearly 23 percent. The average stay length reached 2.2 days, reflecting improved tourist offerings.

According to local media, among the major tourist cities in the former Yugoslavia, Sarajevo receives the second-highest number of tourists after Dubrovnik in Croatia.
