U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar decreased in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, dropped 0.63 percent to 108.263 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro rose to 1.0388 U.S. dollars from 1.0301 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound advanced to 1.2513 dollars from 1.2428 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 157.54 Japanese yen, higher than 157.21 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.9045 Swiss francs from 0.9091 Swiss francs, and it dropped to 1.4337 Canadian dollars from 1.4449 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar lost to 11.0528 Swedish Kronor from 11.1083 Swedish Kronor.
