U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar rose in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.43 percent to 109.651 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro lost to 1.0245 U.S. dollars from 1.0299 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound dropped to 1.2210 dollars from 1.2309 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 157.88 Japanese yen, lower than 158.11 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar added to 0.9172 Swiss francs from 0.9126 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.4427 Canadian dollars from 1.4392 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was up to 11.2088 Swedish Kronor from 11.1530 Swedish Kronor.
