U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar rose in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.28 percent to 109.955 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro lost to 1.0208 U.S. dollars from 1.0245 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was down to 1.2167 dollars from 1.2210 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 157.81 Japanese yen, lower than 157.88 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.9191 Swiss francs from 0.9172 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.4412 Canadian dollars from 1.4427 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar advanced to 11.2895 Swedish Kronor from 11.2088 Swedish Kronor.
