Tanjung Aru, our local beach

Every year this Tanjung Aru beach will be crowded with thousand of people ready to take their annual traditional dip into the sea normally known as 'buang sial'. However this New Year eve saw drastic dwindle in the number of people at the beach facing the South China sea because of the devastation caused by the tsunami waves following an earthquake in near Sumatra on Disember 26. Some of them felt that they were staying away from the sea in view of the world largest natural disaster in history. Others appear to prefer to stay home and take their buang sial dip in rivers close by or just take a bath instead of going to the sea at the stroke of midnight. (picture goes with story slug 'kkmsombre')

Tanjung Aru Beach is priceless to Sabahans and many are worried that the beach might be lost now that the Tanjung Aru Eco-Development has been unveiled.

We, Sabahans, are spoilt for choice when it comes to nature. We have the majestic Mount Kinabalu and Tanjung Aru Beach.
