Why the suit and tie?

IT IS common to witness men in a full suit and tie on the streets nowadays. But it makes me ponder and even giggle when I see them wearing it in our hot tropical weather of up to 34°C or 36°C.

An elderly doctor in my hometown wears a tie when he is in his clinic even when the average temperature is 35°C. He wears it from morning till night without fail, and has been doing so for the last 30 years.
