WHEN schools were closed for a few days due to the haze, not all the school-going children stayed indoors. In my housing area (Seksyen 51A, Petaling Jaya), they wandered on the streets with their friends, loitered at playgrounds for hours, or went bicycling together. And horror of horrors, some bold, underaged kids even rode motorbikes without wearing crash helmets!

The sight of these unsupervised children left me horrified and (please excuse the expression) gasping for air!
