I HAVE to reply to K.K. Yong’s letter “Don’t be too hard on those who fail to use seat belt” (The Star, July 31) in which he states that not wearing seat belts should not be viewed as a serious problem because not wearing them does not cause road accidents.
I am an ambulance officer from Australia with nine years experience. Australia is very strict about wearing seat belts, and it is mandatory that all passengers in a vehicle must wear them. This is because in the event of an accident, wearing seat belts saves lives.
