No age limit to tertiary education

I REFER to the letter “Authorities doing right in withholding licence” (The Star, Aug 16). I am startled by the writer’s assertion that those who are 30 years old cannot be considered genuine students unless they are doing postgraduate work.

When I was living in a university campus in the United States, the oldest student was 84 years. It is the acquisition of knowledge that gives many elderly people a reason to live after they are no longer active members of the workforce.
