AFTER reading “It’s time to ease their load” (The Star, Oct 17), I felt compelled, as a former teacher who was in the teaching service for over 30 years, to offer some insights into this never-ending issue of heavy school bags borne by our long-suffering children.

Issuing guidelines on reducing the weight of the school bags without looking into the root causes and taking a firm no-nonsense approach to address this perennial problem serves little purpose.
