I REFER to the letter “Know your rights as strata property owners” (The Star, Jan 17). The Joint Management Body and Management Corporation (managing body) are creatures of the Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757). Hence, the method for calling for general meetings, recovery of funds from defaulting parties or other matters must be in accordance with the law and procedure of this Act.
Since adequate funds are needed to manage a stratified building, the law makes it mandatory for charges and contributions to be paid into a maintenance account and a sinking fund respectively.
