Root cause of gender inequality

I READ with great interest the article “Mind the gap” (Sunday Star, Oct 6). It’s a very comprehensive report detailing most of the factors contributing to the lower participation of women in the workforce and representation in critical positions. Among the barriers mentioned are gender inequality, pregnancy discrimination and lack of childcare support and retraining opportunities.

What the report failed to mention and perhaps look at is the root cause and major contributing factor to gender inequality and its link to women’s participation in the workforce – and that is reproductive rights, bodily autonomy and reproductive choices.
