HAVING observed the recent domestic events from afar, I am not surprised if we have all turned incautiously pessimistic. This isn’t any sort of political statement but rather a push-back against the political elite in its entirety.

In a classic principal-agent problem, we were in for a crude awakening when we discovered a fundamental misalignment between what we (the principal) expected from our elected officials (the agent) and what they set out to do instead. However, despite what may have seemed a clear violation of trust to many, it appeared to have been a long time coming for some.
