Legislation is out of date but all is not lost

I REFER to Chan Quin Er’s “Primer on movement control” (The Star, March 19). In all honesty, the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (PCIDA) as the principal legislation that provides for the prevention and control of infectious diseases in Malaysia is out-dated.

The country is ill-equipped from the legal standpoint to deal with existing and re-emerging infectious diseases as well as to safeguard public health against new and emerging infectious diseases.
