I REFER to the Text Us message “Good job, council” (The Star, Feb 10) on the services rendered by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ). I couldn’t help feeling a little envious when I compared MBPJ’s services with those rendered by our local council, Majlis Daerah Batu Gajah (MDBG) in Perak. The reader wrote that garbage collection is done punctually three times a week. Garden waste is collected once or twice a week. Besides that, roadside turfing and sweeping are promptly dealt with and the monsoon drains are cleaned.
In my housing area in Batu Gajah, MDBG mainly deals with the collection of rubbish three times a week. The grass on the playing field is cut once a month. However, the workers are divided into two groups. One group trims the foliage at the road edges while the other cuts grass on the playing field. Sometimes work is done in a slipshod manner and within a week or so, the grass will be long again.
