Clear the air on compounds issue

I REFER to the report on Federal CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed stating that the police were not the party that issued the RM10,000 compound to the couple who were dining at a restaurant in Cheras, “Cops: We didn’t issue compounds to dining couple” (The Star, March 16).

What disturbed me and, I am sure, majority of the public as well is the fact that there are “other officers” from other government agencies who are issuing these compounds. This is utterly confusing because both the Home Affairs Minister and Inspector-General of Police have stressed that ONLY the police can issue the compounds and the amount is at the discretion of the health officer.
